Other Retirement Income

In addition to benefits from the Plan, you may receive retirement benefits from the social programs offered by the Federal government.  These benefits are paid by the Government of Canada and are separate from your Regina Police Pension.

Canada Pension Plan

You are eligible for a Canada Pension Plan (CPP) retirement pension if you have made at least one valid contribution to the plan.  CPP provides a monthly pension equal to approximately 25% of your pre-retirement earnings up to the Yearly Maximum Pensionable Earnings (YMPE).  The actual benefit you receive at retirement will depend on how long you have contributed to the plan and your personal earning history.  Click here to apply for CPP benefits.

If you apply for CPP at age 65 you will receive the full benefit.  You may apply as early as age 60 if you meet the eligibility criteria, however, your benefit will be reduced to reflect the longer length of time you are expected to collect your pension.

Old Age Security

You are eligible for an Old Age Security (OAS) retirement pension if you are 65 years of age or older, live in Canada and are a Canadian citizen or legal resident at the time your application is approved, and you have lived in Canada for at least ten years after turning 18.  Click here to apply for OAS benefits.

Maximum benefits are payable to those who have resided in Canada for at least 40 years; however, lesser benefits are payable to you if you have lived here for ten or more years.
